Free swimming at Villach's popular family and adventure lake! Not only young people, but also citizens of all ages, enjoy a free dip in the crystal-clear waters of the Silbersee. Piers and slides, gastronomy, a beach volleyball court and plenty of parking spaces round off the free swimming offer in St. Ulrich. The Drau cycle path also leads directly past the shore.
For more than 30 years, the Silbersee has been owned by the city of Villach. This means that the city secured an area of over 10,000 square meters for its citizens at an early stage. So long before free lake access became an issue in numerous Carinthian districts, Villach residents had an entire lake at their disposal.
The Silbersee and the surrounding area are no longer used exclusively for swimming. It is also a great place to play tennis, table tennis, boccia or beach volleyball. The "Silbersee-Ranch" restaurant is a popular destination not only for swimmers, but also for cyclists, as it is easily accessible via the Drau cycle path.
Thanks to the commitment of the Villach Youth Council, a fitness facility was also built at Silbersee. The offer is completed by free WLAN and numerous events. Dogs are welcome in their own dog area on the western shore of the lake.
No smoking
Smoking is not allowed on the sunbathing lawn on the north shore of the Silbersee since 2015! The sunbathing area on the north shore of our Silbersee has been smoke-free for years. Signs point this out and yet it happens again and again that bathers do not comply. We would like to draw your attention to this again and ask you not to smoke in this area (from the kiosk onwards) and not to misuse the outdoor area, which can be used by everyone, as an ashtray. Dogs are only allowed to run free in the designated dog zone. Violations will be sanctioned by Group4 employees and can be expensive.

History:
Before being taken over by the city of Villach in 1989, the area of the artificial lake was owned by the Bundesstraßenverwaltung-Autobahn. The gravel was excavated there as part of the construction of the Karawanken motorway. Numerous documented beautification and greening campaigns over the years show that the people of Villach feel a strong connection to "their" Silbersee. In 1991, the only major event to be held there was the Water Skiing World Championships.
