Silbersee
For more than 30 years, the Silbersee has been owned by the city of Villach. This means that the city secured an area of over 10,000 square meters for its citizens at an early stage. So long before free lake access became an issue in numerous Carinthian districts, Villach residents had an entire lake at their disposal.
Entry is still free, but those arriving by car pay a fee of 3.00 euros for the whole day.
However, the Silbersee and the surrounding area are no longer used exclusively for swimming. Here you can play tennis, table tennis, boccia or beach volleyball. The Silbersee Ranch is a popular destination not only for bathers, but also for cyclists, who can easily reach the Silbersee via the Drau cycle path, among other routes. Thanks to the commitment of the Villach Youth Council, a fitness facility has also been built at the Silbersee. In addition to free WLAN, the offer is rounded off by numerous events. Dogs are welcome in a special dog area on the western shore of the lake.
No smoking at the lake
Smoking cigarettes is not wanted on the sunbathing lawn on the north shore of Silbersee since 2015! For years, the sunbathing lawn on the north shore of our Silbersee has been smoke-free. Signs indicate this and yet it happens again and again that bathers do not comply. We would like to draw your attention once again to this fact and ask you not to smoke in this area ( beyond the kiosk) and not misuse the natural area, which can be used by everyone free of charge, as an ashtray. Allowing dogs to run free is prohibited by regulation, except in the designated dog zone. Violations will be punished by Group4 employees and this can be expensive.

History of Silbersee:
The area of the quarry pond was the property of the Federal Highway Administration before it was taken over by the City of Villach in 1989. It was used for quarrying gravel in the course of the construction of the Karawanken freeway. However, the use of the area was only permitted on the condition that it could be used as a quarry pond after construction.
The fact that the people of Villach feel a strong connection to "their" Silbersee is shown by numerous documented beautification and greening actions over the years. In 1991, the only major event to take place there was the World Water Ski Championships.
