The Villach bus service - New Frequencies & new Routes

In July 2022, for the first time in the history of our city, a new bus service was introduced. It ensures a half-hourly service during rush hours. With the support of the State of Carinthia and in cooperation with Dr Richard, the City of Villach was able to make numerous further improvements and adjustments. On this page you will find all information about the Villach bus service.
The new mikro-BUS:SI

More connections, more flexibility, more possibilities. The micro-BUS:SI goes everywhere. 

The micro-BUS:SI is a flexible addition to the exsting Villach city bus service, the BUS:SI. The micro-BUS:SI is a classic "MIKRO ÖV" service – on the one hand, it operates as an on-demand service to districts that previously had no connection to the public bus network (such as Serai or Gritschach), and on the other hand, it runs on new routes and strengthens existing bus lines.

The micro-BUS:SI is a small vehicle that can accomodate up to eight passengers, and it can be converted to provide a wheelchair-accessible space. From December 14: A BUS:SI for the Koralm Railway with new timetables!

MWith the timetable change on December 14, 2025 and the opening of the Koralm Railway, a new era of public transport begins in Carinthia. Across Carinthia, the mobility offer from bus to train has been adapted, creating a dense, modern, and interconnected system. Changes have also been made to Villach’s city bus services. The departure and arrival times of the BUS:SI lines have been adjusted accordingly and are aligned with the most frequently used ÖBB connections, ensuring smooth transfers. The half-hourly service remains, of course. In addition, new BUS:SI lines have been introduced to further improve connections in city traffic. Here is an overview of the changes:

New BUS:SI Timetables:

Villach’s BUS:SI lines run Monday to Friday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. at half-hour intervals. However, departure and arrival times have changed in adaptation to the revised ÖBB timetables.

​New BUS:SI Lines

  • Renaming of Line 5A and 5B to include 5C: The bus lines towards St. Martin, Untere Fellach, and Oberdörfer have been renamed for better distinction. In addition to the designations 5A and 5B, there is now a Line 5C. Line 5B continues to serve Oberdörfer together with 5A. St. Martin and Untere Fellach remain accessible via 5A. Line 5C refers to routes that, like 5A, serve St. Martin and Untere Fellach but return directly via Tirolerstraße to the main station (HBF) from VEZ. Thus, 5C is a fast connection to the Stadthalle, St. Martin, and Untere Fellach without continuing into Oberdörfer.
  • Extension of Line 1 with 1A: On Line 1 (Landskron–KTS), the previous special service to Tratten (Manhattan) becomes the new Line 1A. Line 1A runs Monday to Friday from the main station via LKH to the central cemetery and directly back to the main station via Ringmauergasse. The separate designation as 1A provides even better clarity.
  • Extension of Line 1 with special Atrio service: Additionally, Line 1 (Landskron–KTS) introduces a new special service (see special services), which for the first time serves Atrio from Monday to Friday. This route runs from the main station via Tratten to Infineon and continues to Atrio.
  • Extension of Line 2 with special Atrio service: On Line 2 (Vassach–Völkendorf–Infineon), a new special service (see special services) is also introduced: it runs from the main station via Völkendorf directly to the Atrio main entrance. This makes it easy to travel by public transport from Völkendorf to Atrio and back.

  • New Line 36 (formerly Line 50): The former Line 50 not only has a new name (Line 36) but has been completely redesigned. It now runs from Sattendorf via Urlakenstraße to St. Ruprecht and continues via Millstätterstraße towards the main station. To improve connectivity, new stops have been added in the town center (St. Ruprechter Platz).

Adjustments to School Services

  • As part of the timetable change, several school services have also been adapted. Some new school routes have been introduced as reinforcements and new connections (e.g., Line 36 – school service between St. Ruprecht and Landskron). Due to the general timetable adjustments, some school service departure and arrival times in the morning have also changed. An overview of all current school services and information on the changes can be found directly in the school timetables.

New Line Designations in City and Carinthian Bus Services

With the Koralm Railway, public transport line designations have been standardized across Carinthia. Some BUS:SI lines have therefore been renamed, as have several Postbus lines. The new line designations are available for download in the overview.

NEW from December 14, 2025! Line 2 extended with a special Atrio service: A new special service (see Special Services) will be introduced on Line 2 (Vassach - Völkendorf - Infineon): This service will run Monday to Friday from the main train station via Völkendorf to the Atrio shopping center. For the first time, the Atrio Main Entrance stop will be served. This provides convenient travel between Völkendorf and the Atrio shopping center.

Pro tip: Lines 2 and 7 are connected and can be travelled directly from Infineon without changing buses. This allows you to travel from Völkendorf to Perau and the tax office without changing buses.

Note regarding the timetable change on December 14, 2025: The school bus service on route 30 (Schütt - Warmbad - Main Station). Will depart from Oberschütt slightly earlier at 6:33 a.m. Route 30 will also depart from the main station (Main Station - CHS - HTL - Warmbad - Schütt) earlier: at 6:10 a.m. Please take note of this change.

MicroBUS:SI Notice: The microBUS:SI will operate on some routes on route 30. The microBUS:SI is a small vehicle with a capacity of up to eight passengers and includes an accessible wheelchair space. The timetable indicates when the minibus will run on the regular Monday-Friday schedule.

On Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, the microBUS:SI will operate exclusively on route 18 as an on-demand service. The bus only runs this route if the journey request has been registered by phone at least one hour in advance by calling the mikro-BUS:SI HOTLINE at +43 4242 205 05 05.

This demand-responsive service ensures that the bus only runs when it is actually needed. This eliminates empty runs and conserves resources. The standard fare for the respective zone applies (climate and Carinthia tickets are valid).

MicroBUS:SI Notice: The microBUS:SI will operate on some routes on route 30. The microBUS:SI is a small vehicle with a capacity of up to eight passengers and includes an accessible wheelchair space. The timetable indicates when the minibus will run on the regular Monday-Friday schedule.

On Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, the microBUS:SI will operate exclusively on route 18 as an on-demand service. The bus only runs this route if the journey request has been registered by phone at least one hour in advance by calling the mikro-BUS:SI HOTLINE at +43 4242 205 05 05.

This demand-responsive service ensures that the bus only runs when it is actually needed. This eliminates empty runs and conserves resources. The standard fare for the respective zone applies (climate and Carinthia tickets are valid).

Family ticket: up to 4 children between 6 and 15 years old travel for free. The children do not have to be related to you, they do not have to be specified at the time of purchase and they do not have to be the same for every trip.  Family proof is therefore not required. The children do not receive their own card and therefore need a valid ticket from the respective transport company if they travel alone. As before, children aged 0 to 5 travel free of charge.
Special for people with disabilities: For people with disabilities if their Austrian disability pass contains a degree of disability of at least 70% or the note “The holder of the pass can claim the fare reduction in accordance with the Federal Disability Act”, as well as for those seriously injured in war with a corresponding severely disabled person’s ID card.
Special with compensatory allowance: Recipients of a compensatory allowance with proof.

New office for all questions regarding the bus services at Hans-Gasser-Platz 9

The City of Villach and Dr Richard Kärnten have opened a new “bus office” at Hans-Gasser-Platz. A separate office has been opened in order to competently address and answer questions regarding the bus service. The new bus office is the central point of contact for all kinds of passenger concerns. Here, citizens can also request student and apprentice passes as well as discount entitlements for senior citizens and students.
